Operation

The P57N direction findung receiver was developed in the 1930s was sold by Telefunken Berlin from 1935. The 26 systems ordered by the Swiss Army were manufactured by Telefunken Zurich - Albiswerk.

The system is housed in a large transit case with the direction finding receiver and the three coil inserts. The complete setup also includes two canvas bags with the DF receiver tripod and a compass tripod.

Coil insertThe single conversion superhet receiver with an IF of 970 kHz is fitted with three RES094 and three RE084. The three frequency ranges 3-6 / 6-12 / 12-20 MHz are selected by coil sets inserted into the upper part of the receiver.

The receiver is powered by a 10 Ah 4.8 V NiFe heating accumulator and a 150 V plate battery.

Technical principle

The radio frequency signal from the direction finding frame antenna is fed to a combined RF amplifier and mixer stage, where it is mixed with the oscillator signal to create the intermediate frequency of 970 kHz. Demodulation takes place after an IF amplifier stage, followed by two AF amplifier stages.

Tube configuration

V1 (RES094, RF preamplifier and mixer stage); V2 (RE084, oscillator stage); V3 (RES094, IF amplifier); V4 (RE084k, audio demodulator stage); V5 (RE084, LF amplifier stage); V6 (RE084, LF power amplifier).

Development

The P 57 N shortwave direction finder was developed by Telefunken, Berlin. Twenty units were ordered at a unit price of CHF 9,000.

Use

The KP / P-701 short-wave direction finder was used by Fk Kp 7, which was established in 1940 and renamed Mot Fk Kp 20 in 1944, and was decommissioned in 1960.
