The receiver (R-256A/URD-2) is integrated in the direction finder and covers the VHF aeronautical radio range 100 - 156 MHz.

An H-Adcock antenna is used as the direction finding antenna.

Development

The GCA AN/MPN-5 landing radar systems were developed by Bendix in the 1950s.

Deployment

The GCA approach radar systems consisting of a surveillance radar (SRE), a landing radar (PAR) and a VHF direction finder were acquired from 1957 on and were in use until 1978; the systems were liquidated in 1988 / 1991 (?).

The three landing radar systems for ground controlled approaches (GCA) were installed at Dübendorf airfield in 1957, Payerne in 1958 and Emmen in 1960; from 1960, three AGA radio beacons were installed at Dürnten, Emmen and Kerzers to provide additional support.
