With the advent of the Second World War, Plessey produced equipment for the aviation industry, including the R-1155 receivers and T-1154 transmitters widely used in British bombers.
After merging with the British Ericsson Telephone Co., Plessey became one of the most important manufacturers of telephone equipment, later the group was split into Plessey Avionics & Communications, Plessey Radar and Plessey Marine. In 1988 Plessey Communications merged with GEC to form GEC - Plessey Communications and was acquired by Siemens.
