Siemens and Halske, Berlin

The Siemens & Halske company was founded in 1847 by Werner Siemens and Johann Georg Halske in Berlin, soon Siemens became one of the leading construction companies of printing telegraphs, but also of telegraph equipment, telegraph and submarine cables, generators and power plants and later in traffic engineering.

Even in an early stage, Siemens was involved in radio technology and at the time of the First World War developed transmitting and receiving systems and started radio tube engineering. So Siemens became one of the founding members of the Telefunken Group; in 1941 Siemens handed over his Telefunken shares to AEG.

In the post-war period, Siemens produced consumer electronics; the construction of commercial reception and transmission equipment as well as power engineering remaines other business areas of Siemens.
