 +In 1903, the **Society for Wireless Telegraphy Telefunken mbH** (Gesellschaft für drahtlose Telegraphie GmbH) was founded, it was established as a competitor to the british Marconi Company, which had a overwhelming influence in maritime communications in early 20th century, and Telefunken united the knowledge and patents of it's parent companies AEG and Siemens.

 +In 1941, Telefunken was completely taken over by the AEG (Allgemeine Elektrcitäts Gesellschaft), an in around 1967 the hitherto independent Telefunken GmbH was merged with AEG to become AEG-Telefunken. Due to economic difficulties, certain business units were split off after 1970.

 +The consumer electronics devision was taken out of the group in 1972 and sold to the French Thomson Group later on.\\ 
 +The division of high-frequency communications and transmitter technology was transferred to Telefunken Systemtechnik GmbH in 1985 and later DASA (German Aerospace AG) in 1989.

 +In 1996, the former parent company went out of business, the semiconductor production in Heilbronn was continued as Telefunken Semiconductors GmbH & Co. In 2015, this last branch also had to file for bankruptcy.
